My beautiful Grandmas D passed away this morning.
As a young girl, I ADORED my Grandfather! He was the world to me! I loved my Grandma but it was Grandfather that captured my heart!
As I have gone from a little girl to a grown woman I have gained so much appreciation for this amazing, strong, caring woman whom I adore. She lived a life full of love, grace, forgiveness and understanding. She endured much in her life, but always had a smile on her face!
In the last six months she has COMPLETELY planned her funeral. She has chosen her casket, picked her dress, given photos to the funeral director and written the obituary. She even had it written to say "This is approved by Dorothy Olson" at the bottom. At first I thought this was a control issue but I have recently realized that she did this in order to prevent any disputes during this fragile time for our family! Yes, that is a true picture of my Grandmother, always looking out for everyone else! What a wise woman she was!!
Her worst fear was that she would die in December and the funeral would be in a blizzard. She couldn't stand the thought of all of us standing by her graveside in the snow! Well, it is December and there is a blizzard right now in South Dakota! But you know what?? Not one of us will complain and we will stand proudly in the snow and wind to pay tribute to this amazing woman!
