I have really had a hard time getting Levi motivated to do his math the last several weeks!! But my mindset was "Just get the book done, we are so close, just finish it!!" Well, last week Levi watched the Video for Lesson 28 but then he did Lesson 30 in his book and he got them all right!!
I realized at that moment that he doesn't need to finish the book!! He all ready knows what he needs to from this book and he is just bored!! He is ready to move on and be challenged again! When he is not challenged with math it could take him an hour to finish 20 problems!! When he is challenged he will have those 20 problems done in 15 minutes. I should have known that he was bored!! I am still trying to figure these kiddos out!
I am still finding the balance in this home school thing!! Last year I was carefree and this year I am totally anal about finishing it book! Maybe by next year I will be somewhere in the middle.
Welcome, Minnie!!

Yep, as a teacher, I always had to reassess my teaching because the same thing would happen. I would "teach from the books" but then alot of times knew I needed to incorporate something fun into the lesson or those kids wouldn't learn anything. We ended up playing a lot of games out of what I was to teach like board games, etc. Maybe he can do his problems on a dry erase board sometimes. Kids LOVE dry erase boards. Just make sure he isn't "drawing pictures" of things other then whats related to the problem. Maybe let him work on the problems with chalk or crayons? Sometimes you gotta just spice stuff up, (who says you cant do math in anything other than a pencil?)Try that sometimes when he gets bored again. Glad hes doing better!
